Alumni Sangamam 2015

As usual, the annual Alumni meetings of Mahatma Gandhi College conducted on 26th December, 2015.  Former students of various departments gathered together to recollect their old day at Mahatma Gandhi College in the spirit of nostalgia and sense of fulfillment.  After the General Body meeting and Executive Committee Meeting, former students and teachers came together for ‘Snehavirunnu’ (Feast of Love).  Three Faculty members – Dr.Sheeja.N., Dr.Reji Paikkattu and Dr.Shijo.M.Joseph – who have been awarded Ph.D during this period were honoured in the Alumni meeting.  Mr.Devaprasad.M., former student of Mahatma Gandhi College, was honoured  in appreciation of his exemplary act of donating liver to a patient in need of it voluntarily out of generosity and concern to save a human life.

Seven Day Special Camp of NSS Units Organised

The NSS Units of Mahatma Gandhi College conducted a Seven Day Special Camp from 19th December 2015 to 25th December at St.Sebastians Higher Secondary School, Velimanam.  Classes on various topics, Personality Development Programmes, Yoga Sessions, Environment Awareness Programmes, Trekking, Health Awareness Programmes and different  cultural programmes were organized as part of the camp activities.  Shiji Naduparambil, President, Aralam Grama Panchayat inaugurated the Camp.  Dr.Shijo.M.Joseph and Ms.Vidya.T.M. were the Programme Officers who supervised the special camp attended by 100 students in a spirit of social service.

College organized Blood Donation Camp

A blood donation camp was organized at the College under the joint auspices of College Medi Care Centre, NSS and NCC on 30th October 2015, with the slogan charged with humanitarian concerns and true fellow feelings for all  - ‘Donate Blood, save a Life’.  In this noble voluntary venture, the College was assisted by a team of doctors and technicians from Blood Bank of General Hospital, Thalassery.  As a mark of benevolence and compassion for others in the society, the students and the staff came forward whole heatedly to donate blood to strengthen the solidarity with Life.  The Blood Bank collected 61 units of Blood.

Principal Dr.M.J.Mathew inaugurated the programme NSS Programme Officer Dr.Shijo.M.Joseph, Vidya.T.M. NCC Officer Lt.Jithesh.K., Medi Care Centre Co-Oridinator Rejeesh.E. et. al. masterminded the programme to a successful completion.

Khadi Exhibiting Organized

Under the auspices of E.D. Club, Two Day Khadi Exhibition was organized at Mahatma Gandhi College on 15th and 16th October 2015.  Variety of products brought out by Kerala Khadi Industries were on sale with attractive discount.  Principal Dr.M.J.Mathew inaugurated the exhibition and Dr.Jayasagar.A., E.D.Club co-ordinator welcomed the gathering.  Dr.Swarupa.R., Sri.Rejeesh.E. and Shyma.N. spoke on the occasion.  The exhibition of Khadi products was part of the efforts to familiarize the young generation with indigenous and natural goods that can ensure self-reliance at personal and national level as  envisaged by Gandhiji.

Awareness class on Cyber Laws

As part of Gandhi Jayanthi celebrations, College Tutorial Council organized awareness class on Cyber Laws on 6th October 2015.  Sri.P.Sukumaran, DYSP took the class in which first  and second year degree students attended.  Dr.M.J.Mathew, Principal and Dr.Aneesh Kumar.K., Tutorial Council Co-oridnator, spoke on the occasion.

Exhibition of Gandhian Literature

In connection with Gandhi Jayanthi celebration, College library organized Seven Day Exhibition of the collected works of Gandhiji and related literature on 02.10.2015, as part of the attempt to impart Gandhian values to the younger generation.  Former Union Minister Sri.Vayalar Ravi MP, inaugurated the programme.  Sri.K.P.Noorudheen, College Manager, Adv.Sunny Joseph MLA, Dr.M.J.Mathew Principal and Sri.Sunil Kumar.K.M., Librarian spoke on the occasion.

Mahatma Gandhi Statue unveiled

Statue of Mahatma Gandhi was unveiled on the college campus on 2nd October, 2015 by former Union Minister, Sri. Vayalar Ravi, MP in a colourful and solemn function that marked the beginning of the month long Gandhi Jayanthi Celebration on the campus. Sri. K P Noorudheen, Ex – Minister and College Manager presided over the function. Principal, Dr. M J Mathew presented the report. Adv. Sunny Joseph MLA, Sri. Abdul Rasheed, President, Keezhur Chavassery Panchayath, Sri. Baby John Pinappillil, Sri. P V Narayanan, Sri. K V Ramachandran, PTA Vice President spoke on the occasion.

College Magazine 2015 released

The College Magazine, 2015 – ‘Moonnamathoru Nizhal’ was released on 30th Sept, 2015 by the world renowned Sopanam Artist, Sri, Njaralathu Hari Govindan in a colourful and aesthetically sublime function organized at the college auditorium. Principal, Dr. M J Mathew presided over and Sri. Rejeesh E welcomed the gathering. Dr. Reji Paikkattu, HOD, English, Sri. Sunil Kurian, Student Editor, Ms. Alinda Joseph and Ashish Francis felicitated on the occasion.

MG Book Fair

College Library in association with Kairali Books, Kannur organized a book fair in the college on 17th and 18th Sept, 2015. Books on a wide range of topics were available with attractive discount. Dr. M J. Mathew, Principal inaugurated the programme. Sri. Sunil Kumar, Librarian and Dr. K V Devadhasan, Dr. Reji Paikkattu and Dr. Jayasagar Adieri spoke on the occasion.  

The College Clearer Guidance and Placement Cell organized a one day workshop on 17th September, 2015 to impart life changing skills and empowering techniques to tackle the emerging challenges and also utilize potential to effect individual growth and social development in the context of building up a better world. Mrs. Preetha Varma from SB Global Educational Resources Pvt. Ltd. Wsa the resource person. Dr. M J. Mathew, Principal inaugurated the programme. Dr. Swarupa R, Co-ordinator, CGP Cell and Sri. Rejeesh E, Dept. of Computer Science spoke on the occasion.
