College Annual Athletics Meet – ‘Sportacus’ was conducted on 23rd February 2016.  Dr.P.T.Joseph, Director of Physical Education, Kannur University was the Chief Guest.  Dr.M.J.Mathew, Principal, Mahatma Gandhi College presided over the function.  Ms.Hitha Hareendran, Department of Physical Education,  Amal.C.Saji College Union Chairman and Athul David Jose, General Captain spoke on the occasion.  Niranjan.K., Kannur University Soft Ball player took the pledge on behalf of the athletes’.   Competitions on various items on Department wise organized in which students participated in true sportsman spirit.  Colorful march past, Torch relay, Flag hoisting, victory ceremony, competitions in all events with Men and Women separately were the attractive features of the athletics meet.  There were competitions for the staff also.

College Arts Festival

College Arts Fest was celebrated on 4th & 5th February 2016 film star Sri.Tovino Thomas was the Chief Guest.  Principal, Dr.M.J.Mathew delivered key note address and College Union Chairman Amal.C.Saji presided over the function.  Union General Secretary Prasob Kumar, Fine Arts Secretary Anil.P.Antony and Union Adviser Dr.Bijumon.R. spoke on the occasion.  Competitions were held in different items in which students participated in group wise as an occasion to express and fine tune their artistic  talents. The College contingent to participate in the Kannur University kalolsavam was selected from the winners in the College Arts Fest.

Scholarships distributed

The Scholarships instituted by the College management as part of its commitment to society, were distributed to five students on the basis of merit-cum-means.  The students selected for scholarships were of different departments.  Sri.K.P.Noorudheen, Ex.Minister, was the Chief Guest.  Sri.C.S.Sebastian, Sri.Baby John Painappally, Principal Dr.M.J.Mathew and Sri.Pramod Kumar.K.V., IQAC Co-ordinator spoke on the occasion.

The faculty members who have been awarded Ph.D recently – Dr.Sheeja Naroth, Dr.Reji Paikkattu and Dr.Shijo.M.Joseph – have been felicitated jointly by the College Management, Teaching Staff, Non Teaching Staff and the PTA.   In the same function, the research journal titled ‘The Quest’ was released.  College Manager, Sri.K.P.Noorudheen, Principal Dr.M.J.Mathew, Research Committee Convener Dr.Aneesh Kumar.K., IQAC Co-Ordinator Sri.Pramod Kumar.K.V., Dr.Devadhasan.K.V., HOD Physics spoke on the occasion.

Republic Day Celebration

The celebration of Republic Day was done at Mahatma Gandhi College as part of which the ceremonial parade by the NCC Cadets evoked the feeling of immense patriotism in the minds of all present oat the occasion.  Principal Dr.M.J.Mathew hoisted the tricolor and gave the Republic Day message.  Members of NCC, NSS, other students and faculty members participated in the programme.

Life Skills – Stress Management Programme

College Yoga and Stress Management Centre and NCC Unit jointly organized a six day Art of Living programme during the second week of January.  ‘The Art of Living’ Centre, Mattannur came up with the resource person in this attempt to master life skills in order to lead a stress free life with the help of Yogic techniques.  Principal Dr.M.J.Mathew inaugurated the programme.  Lt.Jithesh.K., Ms.Hitha Hareendran and Mrs.Geetha.C. spoke on the occasion.  The theoretical sessions and its practical demonstration proved to be an eye-opener to the value of yoga in leading a productive life in modern times.
