More than 400 students from various College under Kannur University participated  in the ‘Mazha Yatra’ (Rain Walk) held under the aegis of College NSS Unit, along the Wynad Ghat Road.  The event was Flagged off by Principal Dr.M.J.Mathew at Boys Town at 10.30 a.m. on July 21.  The participants covered 10 k.m. ghat Road with seven hair pin curves on Foot until they reached Kottiyoor the Final point around 2 p.m.  The students rallied behind the NSS  banners carrying placards stressing the need to conserve the environment.  The NSS Programme officers – Dr.Shijo.M.Joseph (M.G.College-Iritty) Fr.Martin (Nirmalagiri College) Thomas (De Paul College) Nithin Kuttan (Don Bosco College) lead the contingent.

Inter Collegiate Green Quiz

The Bhoomithra Sena (Environment Club) of Mahatma Gandhi College, in association with Green Leaf, Iritty organized Third Inter Collegiate Green Quiz on 21st July, 2017 to commemorate ‘Chandea Dinam’.   Twenty eight teams from various Colleges affiliated to Kannur University participated.  Dr.M.J.Mathew, Principal inaugurated the programme.  Sri.Abdul Gafoor.M., Chairman, Green Leaf  presided over the meeting.  Sri.Rajeesh.E. and Mrs.Priyanka.P., officers of Bhoomithra Sena spoke on the occasion.  The following winners  were awarded with cash prize and mementos :

Ist prize                -        Nirmalagiri College, Kuthuparamba

IInd Prize              -        Mary matha College, Mananthavady

IIIrd Prize              -        Don Bosco Arts and Science College, Angadikadavu

           All teams were awarded with participation certificates in the award ceremony which was attended by officials from Green Lean and the Head of the Departments of Mahatma Gandhi College.  The programme was widely appreciated as informative and entertaining with the focus  on spreading proper ecological awareness among students.

College Celebrates : Foundation Day and Merit Day

Mahatma Gandhi College, now in its 22nd year of completion with the prestigious possession of securing ‘A’ Grade by NAAC in the first cycle of accreditation itself, celebrated Foundation Day and Merit Day’  on 13th July 2017.   Foundation Day was in honour of the Yeoman service rendered by the selfless pioneers whose dreams and efforts led to the present development of the College in forms of infrastructural facilities and academic excellence.  Students who secured University top positions and highest grades in the recently published results and those who achieved success in national level entrance examinations were presented with mementos and cash awards.  26 endowments, instituted in the name of late Sri.K.P.Noorudheen Sahib, the founder Manager of the College, were also distributed.  Dr.M.J.Mathew Principal, welcomed the gathering and Adv.Sunny Joseph MLA, Manager of the College presided over.  Sri. Mir Muhammed Ali, IAS, District Collector, was the Chief Guest.  Sri.C.S.Sebastian, Prof.M.A.H.Khan, former Principal, Sri.Surendran.P., Sri.Pramod Kumar.K.V., Dr.Reji Paikkattu, Dr.Devadhasan.K.V., Sri.Saraschandran.K., Dr.Shijo.M.Joseph, Sri.Vinod.M.K. and Sri.Valsaraj.K. spoke on the occasion.  Dr.Bijumon.R. expressed vote of thanks.

In order to provide proper guidelines regarding the scope and possibilities of the degree programme, an orientation programme for the first year students and their parents was conducted on 12th July 2017 under the auspices of Student Welfare Cell in the College auditorium.  Dr.M.J.Mathew, Principal inaugurated the programme by inviting five students from the freshers to light the lamp as an innovative gesture of reciprocity and well being of all the stakeholders.  General Orientation was  given by the Principal and session on ‘Credit and Semester System’ was engaged by Prof.Meppayil Narayanan, Mrs.Reshma.P.K., Asst. Professor in Computer Science  and Co-Ordinator, Student Welfare Cell welcomed the gathering and Mrs.Priyanka.P., Asst. Professor in Mathematics proposed vote of thanks.  Dr.Ajitha.V., HOD, Mathematics, Dr.Devadhasan.K.V., HOD, Physics, Dr.Shijo.M.Joseph, HOD Computer Science  and Sri.Saraschandran.K., HOD, Commerce were present on the occasion.  The orientation programme was followed by Department wise PTSA meetings.

College Celebrates Onam with much colour and glitter

M.G.College fraternity celebrated the coming of onam festival season on 9th September 2016 by conducting flower carpet competition and also by making and distributing ‘Payasam’ in eight varieties.  Class wise competitions and  active participation of NCC and NSS Units were the attractive features of the onam festival.  The glory of the celebration had a crowning moment in Mrs.Mallika, an employee of the office establishment, being honoured in a special function arranged for that purpose by NCC Cadets.  Different classes had arranged their own feast of love attended by the staff and the students.

7th M.G. Book Fair

The Seventh annual ‘M.G. Book Fair’ was conducted in the College Libray on 7th and 8th September, 2016.  Many book sellers of the district including United Book Suppliers, Kannur took part in the programme.  The Principal Dr.M.J.Mathew  inaugurated the Book Fair.  The students and the staff of the College got an enlightening opportunity to move through the world of books dealing with the English language and literature,  Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science , Commerce, Malayalam and Hindi which they used in a very constructive manner as part of higher learning.

Inter Collegiate Business Quiz and Colloquium Competition

On 7th September 2016, an Inter Collegiate Business Quiz and Colloquium Competition was conducted under the auspices of the P.G. Department of Commerce and Management Studies, Twenty four teams from various Colleges affiliated to Kannur University took part in the programme.  Principal Dr.M.J.Mathew inaugurated the competition.  Mr.Rajesh Jose, M.D. Priya Enterprises was the Guest of Honour.  Sri.Saraschandran.K., HOD Commerce and Management Studies and Dr.Swarupa.R., Co-ordinator of the programme spoke on the occasion.

College Receives the Best NSS Awards

Kannur University selected the NSS Unit No.63 of our College as the Best NSS Unit from the colleges affiliated under its jurisdiction and Dr.Shijo.M.Joseph as the Best NSS programme officer of the region.  The award for the Best NSS Unit was received by College Principal Dr.M.J.Mathew and the award for the Best Programme Officer was received by Dr.Shijo.M.Joseph from the Vice Chancellor on August 26, 2016.  On September 1, 2016, a function to felicitate the NSS Unit and the Programme Officer was organized in which Adv.Sunny Joseph MLA, College Manager, was the Chief Guest.  The Principal presided over and PTA Vice President Sri.Rajan, Pramod Kumar.K.V., IQAC Coordinator and Valsaraj.K., Junior Superintendent, spoke on the occasion.

College Hosts Principals' Council Meeting

On 13th August, 2016, Kannur University region Principals' Council meeting was conducted in Mahatma Gandhi College.  Dr.M.J.Mathew, College Principal is the President of the Council who presided over the function.  Principals from eighteen Aided Colleges under the jurisdiction of Kannur University participated in the one day conference that discussed matters related to College Administration, changing policies and the emerging trends in education.

NSS Unit of Mahatma Gandhi College  in association with Green Leaf, Iritty organized ‘Rain Walk’, an innovative programme to acclimatize the modern youth with the innate harmony woven into the forms and phenomena of nature such as rain with the purpose of propagating real environmental awareness leading to proper environment protection for the survival of human beings and other forms of life.  The programme was carried out on 30th July by conducting the ‘Rain Walk’ from Boys Town, Wayanad to Kottiyoor which is also known as Dakshina Kashi.  The programme started at 10.30 A.M. in which around 200 students from various colleges affiliated to Kannur University participated with spontaneous involvement in order to experience the ideal of communion with nature thereby experiencing the rhythm and harmony of life attuned to the benevolence of nature.  In the inaugural ceremony, Dr.M.J.Mathew, Principal, presided over and Sri.K.V.Uthaman Deputy Forest Conservator, Forest Department of Kerala inaugurated the students rain walk to the heart of nature to experience the rhythm enveloping all forms.  Dr.Shijo.M.Joseph, NSS Programme Officer welcomed the participants and Sri.C.Asharaf, Chairman, Green Leaf expressed the vote of thanks.
